I don't mean to be superior but sometimes people around me make it so easy.
I realise that as a "mature" student, I have had a different life experience to that of a lot of my coursemates. Hell I've got life experience. Full stop. Therefore I have to be a bit forgiving when I overhear conversations wistfully remembering Mum's cooking. However there have been moments over the last few weeks when I sat there in astonishment.
Moment 1
Girl 1 - "Did you get your lecture timetable emailed to you yesterday?"
Girl 2 - "Yeah. I've got a lecture 1 til 3 on Wednesday"
Girl 1 - "I know I'm in the same group. Can you believe we have a two hour lecture?!"
Girl 2 - "I know! I'll never be able to stay awake for 2 hours"
God knows how these girls got through school only a few years ago. Whilst they were moaning at the length of the lecture, my inner Hermione was still coming to terms that she only had ONE lecture a week. (I've consoled her with the promise of library time between a half hour seminar and the lecture).
Moment 2. (aka "When I felt old")
I'm sat in the studio singing "Sticking With You" to myself.
Am (the girl that sits to my left in the studio) - "Are you singing about glue?!"
Me - "Yeah it's a Velvet Underground song called "Sticking with you" and it has a line about glue in it" - proceed to sing the relevant line.
Am - "Velvet what?"
Me - "Velvet Underground. You know Lou Reed?"
Am - Looks slightly blank and then ... comprehension ... "Lou Reed? She was in that girl band wasn't she?"
Er ... no.
